Texas Remains a Stand Your Ground State
Texas is truly a Republic. There are a multitude of items that to modify the state constitution must be modified. So there are times when Constitutional amendments are on the voting ballots. While I sometimes abhor the wording, the concept that all of those legally able to vote in Texas must vote on the change is a good one. And bills in Texas are generally short, making it easier for everyone to understand.
Use of deadly force would have been limited to when you could not safely retreat. This opens up an entire can of worms as to when you can and cannot safely retreat. Does it require you to leave your home to whomeever invades, and can you help protect a neighbor in their home.
Thankfully the bill was referred to criminal jurisprudence and seemed to have died. I'm sure it will be resurrected in some form or other, but hopefully it too will die.
