Brief Summary of Texas

Texas is truly a Republic. There are a multitude of items that to modify the state constitution must be modified. So there are times when Constitutional amendments are on the voting ballots. While I sometimes abhor the wording, the concept that all of those legally able to vote in Texas must vote on the change is a good one. And bills in Texas are generally short, making it easier for everyone to understand.

Elections and Voters 2021 Summary

This bill increase the number of hours for voting and the number of days for voting early. Anyone that accompanies more than 3 non-related individuals to vote must provide their information at the polling location. Employees of the state or a political subdivision may not distribute early voting ballots unless they are requested.

Voting clerks are not permitted to solicit vote by mail. Mail in ballots may be mailed or returned in person. As far as I know you can drop a mail in ballot at any polling location. And it requires expanded items for a voter to track mail in ballots, including tracking an application, if the ballot was sent, return of the ballot, and whether it was accepted or rejected. Signature comparisons were also expanded. All portions of a mail in ballot must be retained for the record.

There are crimes that take away a person's right to vote. Texas now requires that the court advise the individual how a finding of guilt would affect their voting rights.

It requires that watchers for vote counts be close enough to both see and here election officers. Requires polling places not be a temporary structure. A person may not be inside the vehicle with the voter that is permitted to vote from the vehicle.

Terms are also established for fraud and vote harvesting.
